Preface: It is difficult for me to meet in person because I must be at my massage therapy office most of the time on the off-chance I get a walk-in client, but the system would not allow me to finish my tutor profile and make it public until I said I could meet five minutes away. In certain circumstances, I may be able to meet locally, but please don't assume I can meet in person. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. ______________________________________________ I love English. I really, really love English. The chaotic beauty of its rules and exceptions is a mountain whose summit is well worth the effort to reach. When it is wielded as a sword with finesse and grace, the result is a fantastic display of talent and craftsmanship. It is an art form whose brush strokes are words and whose color is composition. I have listed history as another tutoring option because language and history so often go together. I have a broad knowledge of US history; world history; ancient history specifically of Israel, Egypt, Greece, and Rome; British history including the Celts and Britons; war history; Native American history specifically of the Lakota; Judeo-Christian history; French Revolution history; and most extensively, Biblical history as it relates to not only Bible study but also to ancient, medieval, and modern histories. Sadly, I also have a macabre knowledge of medieval torture devices and practices, which if the truth were told I wish I didn't have. But if for whatever reason you or your student must write a paper (I hope no demonstrations) on this dark and nauseating subject, I might be able to help. Same goes for French Revolution and World War warfare. If you're still looking for help with the more bizarre but less morbid facets of history, I'm well versed in cryptozoology ranging from Sasquatch to Mokele Mbembe to Leviathan to Nessie and all her cousins. I have included literature because, like history, literature has an intimate relationship with language, for without language, literature cannot and does not exist (even pictorial art and spoken word are language). History and literature also pair well with each other like music and fine food. I specialize in Poe but have access to and broad knowledge of many American and British authors. Please bear in mind that my forte is in classic literature and not with the modern staples of today's middle- and high-school classrooms. I read TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, but that was the most modern of my reading assignments and I do not recall much thereof. My heart, if you'll excuse the pun, lies with Poe. And Shakespeare. As for English grammar and mechanics, which is presumably why you're reading this, I operate by MLA and the Oxford Comma. If you or your student requires a format other than MLA or (Heaven forbid) the Oxford Comma, I am not your person. I repeat: if for some inscrutable reason you or your student must learn to use (perish the thought) the "standard" comma, I AM NOT YOUR PERSON. The Oxford Comma must be pried out of my cold, dead, stiff, and lifeless hands. If you're still reading this and aren't entirely frightened away by now, yay! I welcome your interest and I hope I can further cultural knowledge to the next generation. College, high school, middle school, whatever. Bring it on. "You ever heard of Michelangelo? You ever heard of the Sistine Chapel? *points to myself* Michelangelo. *points to you* Sistine Chapel. Let's go paint that ceiling." --Will Smith as Alex Hitchins in HITCH
